The BJP today took a dig at prime minister Manmohan Singh for his comments that Rahul Gandhi was well-qualified to hold a cabinet post, asking him to include the latter in his team instead of "giving certificates".

"The prime minister keeps giving certificates to Rahul Gandhi about his qualities every three-four months. If Gandhi is so talented then the PM should include him in his cabinet," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.

The issue was an internal matter of the Congress, but nevertheless Gandhi could express his governance skills by
joining the cabinet, he said.

"If Singh includes Gandhi in his cabinet the country will get to see his administrative acumen."

In his press conference yesterday, Singh had observed that Gandhi was "very qualified" to hold a post in the Union cabinet.

"I have every reason to believe that as and when he is ready to join the cabinet, he would be a very, very appropriate addition to the cabinet," Singh said.

"I sometimes feel that younger people should take over. As and when the Congress party makes that judgment, I would be very happy to make place for anybody the party may choose," he said, when asked about his retirement plans.
