The BJP today staged a demonstration, burnt effigies and took out a procession to protest against last night's crackdown on Baba Ramdev's fast against corruption in Delhi by the UPA government.

The student wing of BJP, Akhil Bahratiya Vidyarthi Parishad, burnt effigies of Prime Minister Mammohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at a 'Satyagraha Sibir' in central Kolkata this morning.

The demonstrators alleged that Baba Ramdev's movement against corruption had been "illegally throttled".

In the evening, party activists went in a procession from their office on Central Avenue to Esplanade shouting slogans against the crackdown.

Followers of Ramdev on the other hand held a 'Satygraha Sibir' at Md. Ali Park in central Kolkata to protest against the police action.
