Restoration of first ever capital of Kadamba dynasty in Goa and saving it from the land sharks is high on the election manifesto of BJP candidate from St Andre constituency that was released today.

BJP Goa spokesperson Vishnu Surya Wagh said that the Kadamba Rajmarg (dynasty road) which is in shambles will be restored to its past glory if the party is voted to power.

"There are various symbols of Kadamba dynasty in St Andre constituency which will be restored and preserved," Wagh, who is contesting from the constituency, said.

Goapakapattna, now called Goa Velha, which was the first capital of Kadamba dynasty had trade contacts with as far as Zanzibar, Bengal, Gujarat and Sri Lanka and records indicate that on account of its commercial nature, Gopakapattna possessed a cosmopolitan look.

The capital was served by a highway called Rajvithi or Rajmarg, ruins of whose glory can still be seen.

Wagh said that the remnants of the dynasty are falling, which needs urgent attention.

BJP has alleged that the land sharks are already eyeing this piece of land bordering Panaji and the controversial Regional Plan 2021 has given access to land sharks to convert these lands into settlement zones.

"There were underground palaces in this area. One can still find remains of these palaces," Wagh said.

The party's manifesto has also assured to accredit three unique festivals—Tovxanche Fest (Cucumber Feast), Santachem Pursanv (Process of Saints) and Intruz, which are the festivals of the Catholic community as state events.
