BJP names 20 office-bearers in Gujarat

Women, youth and educated candidates given preference

A month after it nominated its state president, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared 20 of its 26 state office bearers on Friday.  The party it seems has given preference to women, youth and educated candidates for the various posts, which includes four Rajya Sabha MPs and two MLAs.

Keshubhai Patel, former Gujarat chief minister, has been appointed as the member of advisory committee. He was earlier the chairman of the same. Fourteen new faces have made it to the list.

The party has included three women in the list of six vice-presidents.

They are Ramila Bara, former MLA of Khedbrahma, Sushma Agrawal, former deputy mayor of Surat, and Nauka Prajapati, the president of Bhabhar Municipality of Banaskantha.

Ajay Choksi, an MBA and former mayor of Surat is also in the list of vice-presidents.

IK Jadeja, spokesperson for the BJP, has been upgraded to the post of vice-president. Bhikhu Dalsania, Bharatsinh Parmar and Vijay Rupani will continue as the organizational general secretaries. Shankar Chaudhary, an MLA of Radhanpur is the new addition to the team of general secretaries. The party has also added few new names to the state secretary cadre.

Bharat Pandya, former MLA of Dhandhuka and head of the recently concluded member registration process, has been appointed as a state secretary. Jitu Waghani, president of the state youth cell, Niru Kamalia, former deputy mayor of Junagadh  and Dr Amita Paramar of Navsari are also included in the list. Surendra Patel, Rajya Sabha MP, has been reappointed as the treasurer.

Purushottam Rupala, Bhavnagar MP Rajendrasinh Rana, finance minister Vaju Vala, former minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, revenue minister Anandi Patel, minister of state for law Amit Shah, former general secretaries Anant Dave, Jayanti Barot and former minister Nitin Patel are members of the state advisory committee. Zaver Chavda, former vice-president has been appointed as chairman of the disciplinary committee of the BJP.
