Accusing Andhra Pradesh government of failure to take precautionary steps in spite of advance flood warning, BJP state unit today demanded a judicial inquiry into lapses in administration.

"Government totally failed to take precautionary steps despite flood warning issued by Central Water Commission (CWC) well in advance of devastating flood on October 2 which caused heavy damage to crops and properties besides taking 65 lives in five flood affected districts in the state," BJP state chief Bandaru Dattatreya told media here.

A high level delegation of the party had visited Srisailam dam two days ago and had interaction with the officials including chief engineer of the dam besides taking information about day-to-day flood levels and release of water, he said.

The information the party had from Dam authorities clearly indicate that CWC had issued warning notice to Kunrool district collector and authorities concerned about possible heavy floods, Dattatreya claimed.

The party's office-bearers meeting which was held here today had a detailed discussion on the information gathered and felt the woes of common people were compounded by the "natural calamity and man-made mistakes", he said.

The BJP chief alleged that Rosaiah government is trying to cover up its mistake by stating that it has not received any warning from central water body.

The government should order a judicial inquiry into all aspects whether the authorities concerned have followed disaster management rules and taking decision to release water from Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar Dams, Dattatreya said.

Referring to post-flood situation, he said the relief work should reach to genuine people who lost everything in the unprecedented floods and demanded convening of all party meeting at mandal levels to ensure relief to victims.
