The Bharatiya Janata Party tonight appeared hesitant to withdraw support to the Shibu Soren government in Jharkhand, seeking appointments twice with governor MOH Farooq and then cancelling them.

A delegation of party legislators was to call on the governor at 11am today. That appointment was postponed to 7pm at the BJP's request. Thereafter, it was cancelled.

"As our discussions on the sensitive issue remain inconclusive, our delegation could not meet the governor for a second time," state BJP general secretary Ganesh Mishra told the Press Trust of India here.

Mishra said he personally went to the Raj Bhavan to call off the 7pm appointment.

He said that after Hemant Soren's apology for his father and chief minister Shibu Soren voting for the ruling United Progressive Alliance on a cut motion in the Lok Sabha and request for a review of the BJP's decision to withdraw support, it was all the more important to have a thorough discussion.

He, however, said he had no knowledge of a second letter being sent by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha to the BJP. "I don't know about that," Mishra said.

The Raj Bhavan told the BJP politicians that they should not repeat the cancellation if they sought an appointment with the governor a third time.

Meanwhile, Soren wrote to senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, and Nitin Gadkari, expressing regret for voting against the National Democratic Alliance's cut motion.

"I have been unwell for some time and it was due to my ill-health that I voted against the cut motion," Soren said in the letter, a copy of which is with the Press Trust of India.

Soren has pledged unstinted support to the NDA and pleaded that the BJP rethink its decision to withdraw support to his government.
