Bill to extend terms of mayors tabled in Jammu & Kashmir assembly

A Bill seeking amendment in the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act to extend the tenures of mayors and deputy mayors and change the mode of their election from secret to open ballot was introduced today in the state assembly.

The legislation tabled in the House by deputy chief minister Tara Chand seeks to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act 2000 to increase the existing one-year term of mayors and deputy mayors to two and a half years and change the mode of their election from secret to open ballot.
