Bihar unites all parties

BJP MP Bhola Singh’s bill for special status to Bihar brought forth a rare sight of political unity cutting across party lines in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Maulana Mohammad Asrarul Haque one of the two Congress MPs from Bihar —  the other being Speaker Meira Kumar — packed a punch by demanding that not just special status, Bihar deserves a special package as well. “We must get Rs2 lakh crore to make up for all the neglect of the past,” he said.

However, it was former Union home minister Shahnawaz Hussain who delivered all the political points. “The state which gave the country its first president is now without a voice in the central government,” he said while referring to the absence of any minister from Bihar in the Union cabinet.
