Bihar govt writes to DGCA for action against private carrier

The state government has written a letter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) seeking action against the private carrier Go Airways for refusal to take a sick JD(U) MLA Damodar Singh on its flight to New Delhi for treatment last month.

Replying to a question by the JD(U) MLA Manjeet Kumar in the state assembly, the Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that the state government has written a letter to the DGCA for action against the private carrier for its refusal to take the ailing JD(U) MLA on its flight to New Delhi for treatment on February 14.

The Go Airway's refusal to take the sick JD(U) MLA was all the more startling as the latter had valid medical documents to be taken urgently to New Delhi for medical treatment, he said.

Chaudhary said that though an FIR was lodged against three GO Airways employees under various provisions, the state government decided to pursue the matter with the DGCA for taking appropriate action against the private carrier.

On Kumar's supplementary question whether the state government proposal to take his call attention motion as a 'suo motu' privilege motion against the Go Airways, the WRD Minister said that the member was entitled to bring the privilege motion against the private carrier.

Intervening in the matter, the Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary said that he will look into the matter.
