The dawn-to-dusk Bharat Bandh called by NDA and the Left flopped in Tamil Nadu. But for parts of Kanyakumari, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts, the bandh had no impact in the state.
All modes of public transport were on schedule and schools, colleges and government offices reported normal attendance.
The main opposition AIADMK supported the strike, but did not participate in protests. BJP and the Left parties staged demonstrations in Chennai, but protesters were immediately arrested by police.
Life paralysed in Kerala
The bandh was total in Left-Democratic Front-ruled Kerala.“With no transport, people were left stranded at Kochi airport and railway stations. There were, however, no reports of violence,” sources said.
