If your child has not carried food prescribed by her school, she may be forced to eat neem leaves! This bitter punishment was meted out to Prachi Shah, 12, a seventh class student of A-One Xavier's High School (AXH) in Naroda on Tuesday. The girl has alleged that her class teacher forced her to consume neem leaves, just because she didn't bring snacks in her tiffin-box as per the menu stipulated by the school.

The girl's father Dhaval Shah has submitted an application to Naroda police station about the incident and the school management has also assured the girls' parents of investigating the issue.

Dhaval Shah told DNA: "My daughter has been studying in the school for the last eight years. A prescribed lunchbox menu has been given by the school. On Tuesday my wife could not prepare roti-sabji for my daughter's lunch, which was prescribed for the day, so she packed her lunchbox with roti and ketchup. At lunch time, the class teacher checked the tiffin box and asked my daughter to stay back and meet her after school hours. When my daughter went to meet the teacher, she forced her to eat 5-6 neem leaves as punishment, so that she would remember to bring the 'correct' snack the next time."

Shah added: "I was out of the city on business and came to know about the incident in the evening. So I went to meet the principal on Wednesday and talked to him about the matter, but he expressed his ignorance about it. I again cross-checked with my daughter's classmate, but by the time I went to meet the school authorities, the institution had closed. So, just to ensure that such incidents don't happen again, I submitted an application to the Naroda police station."

Dhavalsinh Zala, trustee of the school, said, "I do not know about the incident. But we are investigating the matter and if it is true, we will take action against the teacher."
