Poverty-stricken minor girls of West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are being sold for Rs20,000 to Rs30,000 in the Valley. Police have arrested four human traffickers and booked them under Public Safety Act, under which they can be jailed for two years without bail or trial.

The traffickers were part of the organised gang who were exploiting poor and helpless women of outside state by luring them on the pretext of jobs. “Instead they will exploit them sexually and then sell them for Rs20,000 to Rs30,000”, said a police spokesman.

Police said during investigation it was found that this gang has been involved in the illegal trade since long.

This is just a tip of the iceberg in the wounded paradise. Hundreds of poverty-stricken women from several states are falling in the trap of Kashmiri touts who bring them here and either push them into prostitution or sell them to old, handicapped or middle-aged grooms.
