Most middle-class students willy-nilly join the rat race of pursuing top academic grades in order to bag lucrative jobs and ‘settle down’ in this highly competitive world. But one PUC student from a well-known city college decided to shun the beaten track. No, he did not aspire to take up social work or any other such altruistic calling. He wanted to rule the Bangalore city as a mafia don!

However, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police recently played a spoiler and arrested this nineteen-year-old student, along with two of his classmates, and another known criminal, while they were preparing for dacoity in Kempegowda Nagar.

The accused has been identified as R Shashank, a resident of Katriguppe in Banashankari and was studying for second PUC student in the prestigious Surana College. Police said his parents are bank officials working in different branches of State Bank Mysore (SBM). His mother is based in Chennai, while his father is working in Bangalore.

Along with Shashank, CCB police’s organised crime wing also arrested his classmates Arun Kumar (18) and M Sundar (18), and a known gangster Chandrashekhar alias Putta alias Karadapudi alias Chandra, 23, of KS Layout. The CCB police officials said Shashank was always fascinated by the underworld and aspired to become a notorious don. Few months ago he happened to meet Chandra, who was earlier arrested for robbery and murder attempt. Chandra, along with another criminal Vinay Reddy, was lodged in Parappana Agrahara central jail in the city in connection with Jadeja Ravi murder case in Mandya.

Chandra came out on bail and Shashank met him in his area and came to know of his criminal past.

He became friends with Chandra and hoped to gain notoriety by committing offences along with him. Chandra introduced him to Reddy and the latter used the students to commit robberies in the city.
