Opposition Congress on Sunday demanded a judicial probe by a sitting judge into the Friday's attack on mediapersons by a section of lawyers at the civil court premises in Bangalore.

A Congress delegation led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara met Governor HR Bhardwaj and submitted a memorandum, demanding a judicial enquiry by a sitting judge into the attack.

"We have always supported the media. We condemn the atrocities committed by the lawyers. We have asked for a judicial enquiry by a sitting judge," Parameshwara told reporters outside the Raj Bhavan.

Union Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, meanwhile, speaking to reporters on his arrival in Shimoga, came down heavily on the BJP government for its "failure" to prevent violence on that day.

In Mysore, Congress MPH Vishwanath condemned the violence and charged former Prime Minister HD Devegowda and his family members with being behind the attack.
