Bandh peaceful as most city schools, colleges remain closed

Most of the colleges and many schools in the city remained closed on Friday following a bandh called by National Students' Union
of India (NSUI). 

The student wing of Congress had called the bandh demanding resignation of minister of state for home Amit Shah following the hooch tragedy in the city.

Many NSUI leaders were taken into preventive custody on Friday to avoid any untoward incident.

Many of the students did not turn up for their classes forcing colleges to give up classes for the day.

BK Jain, Principal of the MG Science Institute said hardly 10-20 students were present in the college.

"We were ready to teach but given the attendance there was no point in teaching," Jain said.

Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), Ahmedabad had to face NSUI members' irk after they pelted stones at the institute. 

Saumya Deb Hazra, Senior administration manager of IIPM said that around 9.30 am some youth came on bikes and started pelting stones at the institute.

The institute has lodged a complaint with the Navrangpura Police Station. Some of the schools had announced a holiday to ensure students' safety.

Sunil Trivedi, Principal, Delhi Public School, said they did not want to take any chance as their school bus travels through the city. 

Sandeep Pandya, Principal of Asia English School said the primary section students were sent back home but the secondary and higher secondary sections were working as usual.
