Baldev Patel is GU’s new in-charge registrar

Gujarat University (GU) on Wednesday appointed Professor Baldev Patel as in-charge registrar of the varsity. Patel is dean - science faculty of GU.

Patel said that he was informed of the development by vice-chancellor Dr Parimal Trivedi on Wednesday afternoon. Patel, who is lecturer in microbiology department at GU, was chosen for the responsibility after several employees in administrative staff and academicians refused the prime post at the state's largest varsity.

"Considering pressing concern of the vacancy, I chose to accept the VC's order. Examinations are set to begin soon and other important decisions are also pending. Thus, it is not in good health to keep the post vacant," said Patel. He, however, informed that his appointment at the post is a temporary arrangement. Patel will hold the charge till GU finds a full-time registrar.

Minesh Shah, former in-charge registrar of GU was removed from the post a fortnight back following order by Gujarat High Court.

Patel has been an academician for 28 years and dean of GU's science faculty for past seven years.
