Baby girl axed to death, mother held in Jharkhand

A 15-month-old girl was axed to death, allegedly by her mother, at Tiringtipa in Saraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand today.

Puja Pradhan, who was reportedly behaving abnormally since her return from her parents' home a fortnight ago, suddenly turned on her baby daughter hitting her with a sharp weapon at least six times, officer-in-charge of Kharswan police station Animesh Gupta said.

The infant died instantly.

Puja, who was arrested later, confessed her crime but did not cite any reason, Gupta said.

The little child's body, with injury mark at six places, has been sent for post-mortem.
