The Allahabad high court verdict that the disputed site is the actual birth place of Lord Rama has put the BJP in an advantageous position ahead of the civic polls.

The BJP is likely to take mileage out of the verdict during the upcoming polls to grab votes of the majority and the issue is likely to become crucial to the outcome of the civic polls.

In 1990, the BJP tried to get sympathy of the Hindu voters by raising the issue of Ram temple at Ayodhya and LK Advani, top leader of the BJP, had taken out a rally for Ayodhya from Somnath in Gujarat.

After the rally, the party was not successful in getting more seats in the parliament but it kept the issue alive. However, the party remained in confusion whether to go ahead with the issue of the Ram temple or not. Even the BJP was silent after it came on to power in New Delhi with the support of its allied parties. But now the party can claim that, they have got success in the issue of the Ayodhya and Ram Janmabhoomi.

Chief minister Narendra Modi also issued an indicative statement in response to the verdict on Ram Janmabhoomi. Modi has appealed the public to respect judgment of the court and keep peace. However, he has asked not to forget the verdict which has cleared the way for building Ram temple at Ayodhya.

He also stated that, "The verdict has cleared the way for building Ram temple. It has also got constitutional and legal power. Now, the public has to follow its duty by maintaining peace."

However, political observers have different opinion. "It will be interesting to see whether the BJP would get mileage of the issue or not," said Girish Patel, political commentator and senior lawyer of Gujarat high court. "Actually with this judgment, the BJP has lost one of its agenda to get public sympathy."
