After the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory (DFSL), it is the turn of the Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS) of Gujarat to help the investigators of the German bakery bomb blast in Pune.

They are also likely to help the investigators in unravelling the modus operandi of the attackers. A team headed by ATS-Gujarat, chief, Ajay Tomar is in Pune to know the nitty-gritty of the blast.  Talking to DNA, Tomar confirmed that his team is in Pune in connection with the blast.

He, however refused to reveal details of the exact role that the ATS was playing in the investigations. Sources said that the team had visited the spot of the blast to get several details about the incident.

A source close to the development told DNA that, if needed, the Gujarat Police may also allow the bomb blast investigators to interrogate the accused arrested in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts.

"The Pune police may interrogate some of the Ahmedabad bomb blasts accused lodged in Sabarmati Jail," a police source said. The source said that the modus operandi of the blast in Pune and the Ahmedabad serial blasts are strikingly similar.

"Moreover, Pune is considered a strong base for the illegal activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi)," said the source.

The ATS's visit to Pune is also in accordance with a circular issued by the director general of police, Gujarat state, SS Khandwawala.

The circular had stated that the ATS needs to visit every place in India that reports a terror attack. "Visiting places that have been a target of bomb blasts or terror attacks help the police understand the modus operandi used and also the type of materials being used by terror groups to trigger the blasts," a source said.
