ATM machine broken into, Rs9 lakh stolen

CCTV cameras at the ATM were defunct, so cops have no footage of the incident.

In a daring loot, thieves broke into an ATM in Vasna and escaped with Rs9 lakh.

According to sources the ATM of the State Bank of India located near the Kesariyaji crossroads in Vasna was robbed of more than Rs9 lakh. Sources said that the incident happened between December 3 and 4. The main lock of the ATM was broken after which the machine was also broken into.  The accused then took the cash from the machine and fled the spot.

Manager of the bank Mahendra Macwana filed a complaint in this connection with the Vejalpur police station.  Sources in Vejalpur said Rs9.18  lakh was stolen from the ATM.
They also said that this was the first such case in the area where robbers broke into an ATM. Officials also said that prima facie it appears that the CCTV cameras installed at premises were defunct.

"As a result the images of the accused could not be captured on camera," the sources said.

Vejalpur police is investigating the matter.
