Five more bodies were fished out of the Brahmaputra since Tuesday night even as search operations by NDRF, BSF and army jawans to trace over 200 people missing after Monday’s boat tragedy in Assam’s Dhubri district continued on Wednesday. The bodies of two women and three minors were retrieved by the locals and fishermen. The bodies of 17 others were recovered earlier. Given the strong current in the Brahmaputra waters, it is perceived that the bodies of several victims might have been swept away to Bangladesh. The Brahmaputra flows into Bangladesh 40km away from the site of mishap. The BSF said it was constantly in touch with its Bangladeshi counterpart BDR.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi visited Madertari on Wednesday along with the state’s chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
