As if the sudden fall in temperatures in Amdavad was not enough, the recent police raids on party venues serving alcoholic beverages has sent a further chill down the partygoer's spine.

However, this New Year's eve, not wanting to miss out on the 'good' life, they instead choose to stay away from the city altogether!

Most Amdavadis are heading for hot party destinations like Goa to ring in the New Year. However, this trend ends up affecting revenue of several businesses.

"For many years, Goa was must visit for Christmas parties and people would come back to Ahmedabad for New Year parties as the city boasted of some of the best farmhouse get-togethers.

This year, however, most have opted to prolong their stay in Goa and not return to the now boring party scene in Ahmedabad," said Nilesh Parasher, a city-based designer.

Lack of partying in turn impacts businesses as well, he added.
"My business as a designer has been affected as less partying means people will not spend on new clothes. Those who invest in our collection will not be partying here. Business is going out from the city to other places like Rajasthan and Goa," said Parasher.

Another city-based fashion store owner Vanita Agarwal said that most of her stock was returned, as there were no takers for the same.

"Several designers have been affected due to lack of parties this season. In fact, only 10% of our stock has been sold. Designers are upset as Ahmedabad is usually a good market otherwise," said Agarwal.

Interestingly, a partygoer said that he used to boast that Ahmedabad hosts some of the hottest parties in the season. "I used to brag to my NRI friends that the city had some of the best parties. One friend from Russia even booked a ticket to India to party in Ahmedabad. But given the situation (raids on parties) this year, it seems that not many parties are happening." He further said that he himself of friends who have booked three-day holiday packages in Udaipur to ring in the New Year.

"Some are even willing to go to Mount Abu for the 'sad' parties that happen there but nobody wants to stay in Ahmedabad," he added.
