The ruling BJP in MCD today demanded that the Delhi government should apologise for the police action on party councillors and activists protesting against price rise, in which a number of people were injured.

The BJP got passed a condemnation resolution in a meeting of the MCD standing committee.

"We demand that the Delhi government should apologise to the people of the city for the brutal and targeted police action on elected representatives," leader of MCD House Subhash Arya said.

Ten BJP councillors and activists, including MCD Standing Committee Chairman Ram Kishan Singhal, were injured on Monday when police used water canons to disperse demonstrators who were trying to reach the Delhi Assembly on
bullock carts to protest against price rise.

Delhi mayor Kanwar Sain has written a letter to police commissioner Y S Dadwal, demanding that an inquiry be
initiated into yesterday's incident and action taken against
"erring police officials who acted brutally to crush the
protest".

Sain said that the way water cannons were used on BJP councillors, "it seems that some police officials were
politically motivated to do so."
