Post-delivery complications have claimed the life of another woman in Jodhpur’s government hospitals, taking the toll since February 16 to 17.

Sagar Kanwar, 25, of Dhawa village was admitted to Umaid Hospital on February 20 and gave birth to a child the next day. Due to excessive bleeding after childbirth she was referred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of MG Hospital, where she succumbed on Monday.

As many as four women shifted to the MG Hospital ICU after reported infections have died so far. Medical experts said disseminated intravascular coagulation caused excessive bleeding in all these women, but the cause of infection is yet to be ascertained.

A four-member team from Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research visited Umaid Hospital on Monday evening.

This is the fifth committee formed to probe the matter. Four high-level teams have already investigated the deaths.

Meanwhile, the report on IV fluid, said to be the cause of the infection, is expected from Kolkata’s central drug laboratory (CDL) this week.

The manager of an Indore company which manufactured the IV fluid has been arrested. “IV fluid was said to be the primary cause of infection. CDL will submit its reports in a day or two as it has to be presented in the Jodhpur high court on March 16 in connection with the bail application of the manager,” an official said.
