China’s Baoding Tianwei Baobian Electric Co. (TWBB), a leading manufacturer of electrical equipment, has finalised its plans to invest Rs400 crore for setting up a high voltage transformer and reactor plant in Gujarat. The development comes within a month of chief minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the neighbouring country.

TWBB representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Anand-based Atlanta Transformers & Electricals in the presence of the chief minister and senior government officials in Gandhinagar on Thursday.

According to the MoU, TWBB and Atlanta will jointly set up an ultra-high voltage transformer and reactor plant on Padra-Jambusar highway near Vadodara.

The plant would produce equipment ranging from 750 - 1,200 KV.
Construction of the plant will start in February 2012. It is expected to go on stream from April 2013.

TWBB CEO, Li Yuha on the occasion said they had selected Gujarat for the plant in view of the state government’s growth oriented policies, quick decision making and transparency. He also cited absence of labour woes in the state as another reason.

After the MoU signing, the CM spoke about the growing business ties between Gujarat and China. He pointed out that demand for power equipment was on the rise, and said the proposed plant will be instrumental in providing resources for power transmission.
