Civic activist Anna Hazare extended his support to Baba Ramdev’s fast against corruption starting June 4, saying that he would not allow the yoga guru to be taken in by false promises by the government. “We will not be content with oral assurances of the government. We will fight together against corruption.” he said.

Hazare’s indefinite fast in April for a strong Lokpal bill had received widespread support from across the country. Though the government conceded to his demands, its representatives in the drafting committee later opposed Hazare’s demand that the prime minister and judiciary be brought under the Lokpal. Hazare said the government had cheated Lokpal activists. “It is a fraud if the government first agrees that the prime minister will be accountable under Lokpal and later backs out.”

Meanwhile, the yoga maintained that he will go ahead with the fast and said he could go ahead with talks with the government during his protest also.

A source told DNA “It is highly unlikely that Baba Ramdev will go back on his word. In most certainty he will go ahead with his plan. Preparations for his fast are on going on war level. Lakhs of people are being mobilised.

He will keep talking to government and keep that channel open.”
Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also announced his support for Ramdev on Thursday. A statement on his behalf said, “Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the Art of Living foundation is actively engaged in the anti-corruption movement and fully endorse Baba Ramdev’s effort to bring back the black money stashed abroad and to end the corruption that is plaguing the society.”

The Congress' core group, including party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, home minister P Chidambaram and defence minister AK Antony met on Thursday to discuss ways to get Ramdev to call off his fast.
