The cave-ins will gobble up Rs1 crore in repairs for the AMC.
During the monsoon, major cave-ins were reported near Mithakali Underpass in Ashram Road, Neeldeep Apartment in Naranpura, Bhuyangdev and Jivraj Park. As per an estimate the AMC has to shell out nearly Rs1 crore to repair all the cave-ins. The AMC's standing committee has meanwhile passed a resolution to spend nearly Rs15 lakh for repair of a drainage manhole in Maktampura area. However, sources said it was a cave-in. It should be noted that cave-ins in Maninagar cost the AMC around Rs25 lakh in repairs. The civic body had used Japanese technology to fill up the cave-in.
Moreover, now the BJP corporators have joined the Congress as far as the water supply problem in their respective wards is concerned. Congress member of standing committee Hasankhan Pathan represented the case of residents of Gomtipur who are not getting adequate water even though a new water tank has been set up.
Pathan blamed the poor network system for water crisis and demanded appropriate action. Pathan was supported by two BJP corporators Mahadev Desai and Hemakshu Patel. Patel complained that he cannot afford to have crowd jumping his gate early in the morning to complain about water problem. According to sources, Patel had repeatedly complained about poor water supply in his ward during the agenda meeting of the standing committee.
However, every time he was given an assurance but nothing happened. Having failed to get his problem solved, he openly criticised the administration for poor water supply.
As a result, city BJP chief Rakesh Shah had to intervene and ask the administration to solve the problem immediately as it may have adverse impact on the party's prospects in the upcoming civic polls.
