AMC’s engg dept gets transparent, to go online soon

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to make its engineering department by computerised by next year. With the aim of making the system transparent, the civic body is planning to introduce software that will minimise the errors and also solve the problem of missing files.

The software will help the civic body officials know the status of the file as well as the work progress of a particular project. "All the information relating to tenders, bill payments and contractors will be available online," said Asit Vora, chairman of AMC's standing committee.

In this system, the estimated price of any project will be decided on the basis of SOR which will help in bringing cost parity in the works to be conducted in different zones. Moreover, the officials will not have to depend on the staff to get information regarding budget allocation and progress of project.  The system will also put an end to the problem of missing files as the data will be saved in the central server and it will also help AMC gauge the work of the contractors.

Transparency in awarding contracts and strict adherence to the terms of the tenders will also be ensured. All the works starting from the councillor's budget to JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) will be brought under one umbrella.
