Congress leader and defence minister AK Antony today filed nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections from Kerala.
Antony and two CPI-M nominees are expected to be elected unopposed considering the strength of the Congress-led UDF and ruling LDF in the state assembly.
The last date for filing nomination is March 16 and for withdrawal is March 19.
Antony, who submitted his papers before the legislature secretary PD Rajan, was accompanied by opposition leader in the state assembly Oommen Chandy, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and UDF convener PP Thankachan.
CPI-M had last week announced chief minister VS Achuthanandan's Political Secretary KN Balagopal and the party's women's wing leader TN Seema as LDF nominees for the vacancies to the upper House of Parliament.
Besides Antony, those retiring from the Rajya Sabha next month are A Viajayaraghavan (CPI-M) and PV Abdul Wahab (Indian Union Muslim League).
