Air India crash: Families of victims carrying fake passports will also get compensation

Centre has assured that even if any of the victim of the May 22 Air India Express crash at Mangalore carried fake passport, their family would get compensation announced by the authorities, opposition leader in the Kerala assembly Oommen Chandy said today.

The Centre might inquire about the sources of fake passports, but holding the fake passport by any of the crash victim would not pose a problem for the families to get compensation, Chandy told reporters here.

When reports that compensation to crash victims holding fake passports would be denied was brought to the notice of the central ministers, it was assured that they would get all due compensation and also the solatium announced by prime
minister Manmohan Singh and State government, Chandy said.

Chandy said most of the vicitms from Kasargode and Kannur
from the state belonged to poor families and denying
compensation was not justifiable. 

An Air India Express flight from Dubai overshot the runway in Mangalore and burst into flames on May 22, killing 158 persons while eight others survived.
