Ahmedabad’s elite to gather for innovation meet

Gujarat Innovation Society (GIS) will celebrate its first foundation day by organising a seminar at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) on Saturday. GIS aims to promote and cultivate the culture of innovation in the daily life of all citizens.

The organisation has been supported by 20 top institutes such as Ahmedabad Management Association, All India Management Association, ISRO, ASSOCHAM, CII, GCCI, GICEA and GITCO, to name a few. "The GIS will seek to create a strategy for fostering innovations at the state and sectoral levels with a major focus on MSME & post-graduate students from professional courses, focusing on five key parameters: platform, inclusion, eco-system, drivers and discourse," said Sunil Shah, chairman of Gujarat Innovation Society. He said that this will create an eco-system to boost innovation performance in Gujarat.

Ajay Nanavati, managing director of 3M India, will be the keynote speaker, while health minister Jaynarayan Vyas will be the chief guest. Eminent personalities of the city, academicians, scientists, industrialists and officials and members of different institutes are expected to attend the function.

"This is a unique and exciting endeavour, and GIS hopes to initiate dialogue and debate at various forums to articulate an innovation strategy, leverage the enormous talent that we have in the state, bring about a change in mindsets, create opportunities, and ultimately unleash the innovation potential that is latent in our country," said Shah.

To achieve its first motive, GIS has worked upon creating awareness on 'Importance of Innovation' in daily life. In one year, GIS has been facilitator for, 'Self Oath' for more than 10,000 citizens, mainly Medium, Small & Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) and students, and teachers from various disciplines.

GIS aims at creating a framework for evolving a model of innovation, with focus on inclusive growth and delineating policy initiatives within the government required to spur innovation. Moreover, it looks forward to encouraging central and state governments, universities and R&D institutions, public service delivery systems to innovate and facilitate

innovations by SMEs, institutions & professionals etc.
