Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to telecast celebrations at five places

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials and office bearers are working round-the-clock to make ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ celebrations a grand success. The civic body has decided to place large screens at five places in the city to telecast the ceremonies taking place at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Navarangpura.

AMC will place big screens at five places, that is Joggers’ Park (Navrangpura), Kankaria, Municipal Market (CG Road), Vastrapur Lake and Vijay Chawk (Bapunagar). “A couple of more places such as near the Gujarat Housing Board (Naranpura) are under consideration,” said Asit Vora, chairman of AMC’s standing committee. The screen would be viewed from both sides.

Moreover, AMC has allowed free entry at the Kankaria Lake Front on May 1 as part of ‘Swarnim Gujarat’ celebrations.

The civic body is also spending around Rs35 lakh for lighting up various places such as the Town Hall, MJ Library, AMC offices, river bridges and other over-bridges and underpasses.  The civic body has entrusted responsibilities to various officers in all wards of the city, to gather a crowd at the stadium.

“In each ward of the city, five to seven buses have been placed to take people to the stadium,” said Vora. He also said that apart from AMTS buses, state transport buses will be used to carry people to the stadium.

The civic body has also been entrusted the responsibility of making arrangements for paying homage to martyrs of the Mahagujarat movement. Moreover, flowers will be showered from planes at Shahid Smarak near Lal Darwaja.
