Taking into consideration future needs, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to build a parallel bridge to the existing Chimanbhai bridge in Sabarmati area. It will finalise the design for the bridge to come up over Chandrabhaga river near Sabarmati Ashram very soon.
The AMC needs to widen the Chimanbhai bridge to take BRTS to Chandkheda area from the RTO circle. Therefore, it has decided to build a parallel bridge under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).
The civic body is considering couple of design options for the bridge that will cost around Rs50 crore. However, the final design will be decided following consultation with Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA).
“The bridge was proposed taking into consideration development of the area and projection of population increase in the area,” said IP Gautam, municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, the AMC will also build a bridge over the Chandrabhaga river near Sabarmati Ashram. The bridge will cost around Rs150 crore. It is part of the beautification and renovation project of the Sabarmati Ashram.
Traffic needed to be diverted for declaring Sabarmati Ashram as silent zone, Gautam said.
Meanwhile, the civic body promoted four officials to head of the department cadre on Tuesday. Harshad Solanki and Deepak Trivedi had been appointed as general manager in Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) and Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) respectively on deputation.
Moreover, Janak Dave has been appointed as chief accountant and Naresh Rajput has been appointed as director of solid waste management department.
Gautam said that in both AJL and SRFDCL the civic body
could have appointed general managers through direct recruitment.
“However, we opted for departmental promotion as the candidates fulfilled the qualification and work experience criteria and are doing satisfactory work in the AMC,” he said.
