Many people feel that Lisa’s move of taking away iron tongs from the AMC office and the civic body’s action in filing a defamation case will not help citizens from not getting harassed by stray dogs.
The AMC on Wednesday filed a Rs10 cr defamation suit against Canadian animal rights activist Warden. The civic body says the latter has tried to tarnish AMC’s reputation by uploading dog-catching videos on the internet and by stealing equipment from the AMC office.
A member of an animal welfare organisation said that the AMC has been trying to fool people by saying that they used iron tongs to catch only rabid dogs.
“Can someone from AMC explain how they catch dogs if not with iron tongs? They do not have nets or any other means of catching dogs. It is only during the controversy that the AMC officials, to save face, managed to get some nets to show that they had started using nets. It is the citizens who have to suffer because of the officials and the authorities, who have vested interest in providing contracts to specific organisations. Lisa has done a good job in teaching a lesson to the AMC,” said the member.
Another city based animal lover, Harmesh Bhatt of the Asha Foundation, said that Lisa has not found any solution for the people by doing what she did. “I have my doubts whether Lisa wanted to help animals or whether she was here to promote some specific organisation. AMC will purchase new iron tongs. Will that solve the problem?” asked Bhatt.
