Ahmedabad may get a new police chief

If speculations are to be believed, the city may soon get a new police commissioner.

While there have been murmurs for quite some time about the transfer of the city’s top cop, sources told DNA on Thursday that a senior additional director-general of police is the frontrunner among the many being discussed as probables.

Despite being respected as a highly efficient and forthright officer, the incumbent police commissioner, SK Saikia, may be transferred following the hooch tragedy.

No government official, however, was willing to confirm or reject these speculations. According to reports, a high-level meeting was held in Gandhinagar where state home minister Amit Shah, director-general of police SS Khandwawala and senior officials of the home department were present.

Besides, some other police officers may be transferred from the city.
