The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) has extended by one day -- August 7 -- admissions for students who had appeared for the HSC supplementary exams, following the chaotic situation on the first day of admissions at the designated help centres.

Following a request made by Ushma Anerao Shah, principal in-charge of Government Polytechnic College for Girls (GPCG) Ahmedabad, the ACPC has decided to grant one more day to students to complete their admission procedure.

According to Shah, “On Friday, there were at least 5,000 students and parents waiting to complete the admission procedure on the campus. Since we had given out tokens earlier in the day, we completed 625 admissions by 1.30 am. This is probably a record figure, for any help centre, for supplementary pass-outs.”

Other colleges that were set up as help centres were LM Pharmacy, Ahmedabad and Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda.

LD College of Engineering was also listed as a help centre on the first day, but the college decided to pull its shutters down at 9.30 pm, which forced the aspirants there to move to GPCG to finish
the procedure.

Sources said LD was not one of the recognised centres, however, they could have completed the admissions before shutting down. “Students had to run around at the eleventh hour. In addition, LM Pharmacy and VGEC also pulled down shutters, only adding to the chaos.”
