Hundreds of patients at Civil Hospital heaved sighs of relief as the junior doctors called off their strike on Wednesday morning.

The 700 plus doctors were on strike since Tuesday evening following an attack on a doctor who was reportedly stabbed at the hospital's gate number 3.

"After being given an assurance by health minister Jay Narayan Vyas, we called off the strike. The minister assured our delegation that fool-proof security will be provided to doctors at the Civil Hospital," said Devendra Chaudhary, vice-president of the junior doctor's association.

The doctors had called for the strike in the wake of an attack on a doctor named Sunil Jadhav. He was reportedly stabbed by unidentified people at the hospital's gate number 3 on Tuesday evening at around 5 o'clock. The incident had caused outrage among the 700 odd junior doctors.

Shahibaug police in dilemma

The Shahibaug police are tight-lipped over the investigation of a complaint in which a
35-year-old woman had stated that three young doctors
molested and attempted to rape (IPC-354) her on Tuesday early
in the morning.

The police have reportedly not taken any step to investigate this case. In fact, they are investigating the case in which a junior doctor had alleged that some unidentified people stabbed him near the hospital. The police are reportedly trying to find out the link between the two cases.

"We don't have any proof that links the two cases. However, we are investigating the latter case as a cross-complaint. We doubt that a stabbing incident could have been cooked up. However, once this case is solved, we will start looking into the complaint filed the woman and the whole case," said a source.

On the other hand, according to sources in the hospital, there was a brawl between the woman and three doctors. Sources said that there were a couple of post delivery complications which had irked the patient's people.

Sources said that when the woman who was accompanying her pregnant sister-in-law objected, she was slapped by the doctors who were handling the case.
