A major ruckus was created by members of a family outside Satellite Police Station on Monday after a minor was detained by police for riding a bike without licence or registration papers.

Police, earlier in the day, had confiscated the vehicle and detained the 16-year-old boy for underage driving. When his family came to know about it, they stormed the police station and manhandled the constable who had seized the motorcycle. The boy's father is a senior doctor with a city-based government hospital.

At 12.30 pm on Monday afternoon, Constable Jorsinh Amarsinh was on routine patrolling near Satyam Mall in Satellite. Jorsinh spotted two youngsters riding a Bajaj Boxer bike near Rachana Society. Sensing them to be underage riders, he stopped the boys and asked them to produce their driving licences. Instead of cooperating with the on-duty policeman, the 16-year-old rider phoned his elder brother Tanmay and asked Jorsinh to talk to him.

"Tanmay abused me and threatened me with dire consequences if I didn't let his brother free. I cut the phone line and brought the boy and his bike to the police station," said Jorsinh. But he was in for a rough time. Tanmay and his father Sureshbhai and their neighbour Anjanbhai stormed the police station sometime later and started arguing with him. "They picked a fight with me for detaining the bike. They even tried to tear apart my uniform," said Jorsinh in his statement to senior PI JM Bharwad.

Sureshbhai even threatened Jorsinh and other policemen with their jobs by using his influence. Jorsinh also alleged that Sureshbhai's elder son showed his 'press card' and told policemen to 'stay within their limits'. Anjanbhai told policemen that he is a relative of a senior IPS officer of IG cadre and will use his connection to 'teach a lesson' to the cops who detained the boy.

Satellite Police, however, stood their ground and informed Bharwad about the incident and the latter  asked his men to book the trio for attacking a policeman. He let them go after they accepted their mistake and submitted written apology in the matter.
