Sarkhej police seized 109 bottles of IMFL worth Rs54,000, which were supposed to be supplied to a party venue. Police in the Ahmedabad city and rural areas were on their toes keeping a watch on drunken drivers, eve-teasers, terror suspects and speeding vehicles.
The convoy of a dozen police vehicles set out to conduct a peaceful New Year night on Friday in rural Ahmedabad. Different teams of rural police gathered at Bopal police station in the evening where, after a small briefing, the convoy marched towards Bopal circle from where they went towards Karnavati club, Ognaj, Ghuma, Sanand and Changodar.
According to police officials, once the convoy completed a full round, the vehicles were deployed at these points. Police said that everything was normal and no untoward incident was reported by late night.
Police sources said that a 'Vraj' Van to cater to any emergency had been deployed on the SG Highway. All police control room vans were on standby orders for the entire night.
Teams of traffic cops were deployed at different places of the city with 10 breath analysers. Deputy commissioner of police, traffic, MM Anarwala, told DNA that many commuters were checked with these analysers from 10 pm. "We ensured that there are no speeding vehicles on the city roads," he said.
Cops with breath analysers were deployed at SG Highway, Navrangpura, Satellite, Vastrapur and parts of Paldi area.
