5…4…3…2…1…!!! Yippee..!!! Finally the party-filled last day of the first decade of the new millennium is here and it heralds another hope-filled New Year. 2010's last day was celebrated in a lavish festive manner in the city as party lovers thronged party venues, not in hundreds or thousands, but in lakhs.

Clearly visible was the excitement among people who spent the last few hours in total fun. While some people were found relishing their favourite food at restaurants of their liking, others were found enjoying at DJ parties.

When the clock struck 12, the city adorned a different look, as myriad firecrackers were set off and they dotted the sky and illuminated the atmosphere.

Despite the entry passes for parties being expensive, people hardly complained. "This is a once-in-a-year occasion. So it's OK spend and enjoy with friends," said Deepak Patel, a resident of Satellite. While the prices of passes of a farm house near Thaltej was Rs2,000/- per couple, the exotic pool side party at a popular restaurant had as high a rate as Rs3,000/- per couple.

With various themes doing the rounds at discotheques, people dressed themselves as beautifully as possibly to get into the mood.

Black and white, Bollywood-Hollywood themes ruled the roost and attracted the audiences who were seen flaunting their new attire.

"For the first time in the city 'live screening' of the party took place at my party," said an organiser requesting anonymity. In 'live screening' live videos of the party will be uploaded on internet enabling a person sitting at home to watch the party live on the webpage.

"Though my party has different music and popular DJ numbers, every year only a limited crowd of around 50 couples come to my party," he added.

But this year the business of party venues and DJs have fallen slightly as the number of people attending the parties has gone down.

A city-based organiser, Hardik Varia said, "As compared to last year, we are witnessing less number of people. Last year, we had an audience of around 1,000 people. But this year, we just have 300 people attending our party."

Stating the reason for the same, another organiser requesting anonymity said, "As 31st this year falls on Friday, which is close to the weekend, some people are on vacation. Also, people are scared due to news of terror attacks and have preferred to stay at home."

But youngsters are leaving no stone unturned to enjoy and begin the New Year with a bang. Rahul Jha, an IIMA student, said, "I and my friends went to a discotheque at Wide Angle on SG Highway. Being with friends and enjoying with them is what defines New Year party for me."

Himadri Patel stated how she and her friends had a blast and enjoyed the party silently at home. "We went to a DJ party at Thaltej; then went home at midnight with a huge cake to celebrate the New Year."
