Congress and BJP members played a “friendly match” in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday when they created a ruckus prompting the speaker to adjourn the House even before the controversial ‘Save Afzal Guru’ resolution could be tabled for debate on Wednesday.

Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone adjourned the House twice in the morning before calling it a day at noon thus putting off the controversial resolution without even being moved for discussion.
The Assembly was scheduled to discuss the resolution submitted by independent MLA from Langate Sheikh Abdul Rasheed aka Engineer Rasheed, after the question and zero hour.

While BJP and Congress members were slugging it out in the well of the House, the ruling National Conference and main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) maintained momentous silence watching the developments from the fence.

Congress members led by GM Saroori and Vikar Rasool stormed into the well and BJP MLAs followed the suit. Vikar even climbed on the table and started shouting slogans. In the din nothing could be heard. Even the ministers led by Tara Chand stood up to support the other members though storming of the well was left to MLAs.

Upset by the developments, independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rasheed also stormed into the well and smashed the table fans in protest. Though the marshals tried to catch hold of him but speaker restrained them from doing so.
“I sincerely feel the separatists should contest polls and become MLAs then we can shape our own destiny”, said Sheikh Abdul Rasheed.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti minced no words in blaming the National Conference for whole crisis. “A drama was enacted in the house.  National Conference was its director while Congress and BJP were the actors. National Conference has always exploited the sentiment of Kashmiris since 1947 and indulged in sell out”, she said.

Lone, however, put the onus on opposition PDP for remaining silent in the House during the clash as a result of which Wednesday’s business in the House got lapsed.
Meanwhile, minutes after the assembly was adjourned without tabling resolution, militants killed a cop in broad day light just half a kilometer away from the legislature complex.
