Action taken against 60 Delhi cops for dereliction of duty

The official said the city police lay emphasis on beat patrolling as it helps in better gathering of ground level intelligence.

Sixty Delhi Police personnel assigned with the patrolling beat have faced action this year for dereliction of duty.
    
"We have taken action against those policemen who were found not doing the patrolling properly. We took action against 60 such personnel this year till November," a senior Delhi Police official said.
    
Asked whether the action came following any special drive, the official answered in the negative and said there was an in-built system in the force to monitor the activities of personnel and take appropriate action.
    
"The beat patrolling is monitored and supervised by senior officials. Whenever we find that some have erred, we take action against them," the official said.
    
The official said the city police lay emphasis on beat patrolling as it helps in better gathering of ground level intelligence.
    
"An efficient beat patrolling system is essential for a city like Delhi as it is under the radar of terrorists throughout the year," the official said.
    
He said the Delhi Police has recently revamped the 'beats' across the national capital in an effort to ensure better policing. There are about 2,000 beats in 155 police stations across the national capital.
