Abu Salem produced in 3 separate courts in Delhi amid tight security

Extradited gangster Abu Salem was today produced in three separate courts in New Delhi amid tight security arrangement in view of an attack on him in a Mumbai jail last month.

Salem, sporting a white T-shirt and blue jeans, refused to answer any of the queries of mediapersons regarding his security and threat perception.

He was brought in a white bullet-proof car fitted with a blue beacon light, guarded by a team of Mumbai and Delhi policemen.

Salem, 42, a key accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts, has been lodged in a Mumbai jail since his extradition from Portugal in 2005. Following the incident, he was shifted to Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai.

Today, he was first produced in the court of chief metropolitan magistrate Kaveri Baweja at Tis Hazari court where the matter was adjourned to August 25 as one of the complainants Puneet Mittal, who was to depose in an extortion case, did not turn up.

The accused was then taken to Patiala House courts where he was produced before two different judges.

Special judge Pinki, who is conducting a MCOCA case trial against Salem, recorded the statement of Bhushan Kumar, a police officer in the case. The case was then posted for August 30 recording of statement of other witnesses.

Salem was then produced before additional chief metropolitan magistrate Kiran Bansal where the matter was adjourned to August 30.

The gangster is facing charges in three separate cases relating to extortion in the national capital.
