Generally, a village comprises of people engaged in various types of activities, but a village in Navsari district is such, where everybody is associated to one profession, teaching.

There is no specific reason for villagers to get inclined towards teaching, but all just get attracted towards it and continue the legacy, left behind by their fore-fathers. On an average, there are two teachers at every house.

Kukeri village in Chikli taluka of Navsari district is such, which has the maximum number of teachers, given by any other area or region in the state. Villagers are mostly from Rajput community, coming from well-to-do families.

However, rather than going for business or any other money making activities, majority of the villagers have accepted teaching as their profession. Second community is that of Dodiya Patel, wherein, too majority of the people have opted for the same profession. The legacy is going past few decades, with the younger generation too making their careers in education.

Going on figures, there are 700 houses in the village, which has produced more than 250 teachers.

"On an average there are 2 teachers, in each house. Most of the schools located in Chikli taluka, have teachers from Kukeri. Interestingly, Kukeri also has the highest literacy ratio in the entire district," Raman Patel, a local villager and retired teacher.
