800 kg of e-waste collected in Chandigarh

With the drive receiving a positive response from corporate houses as well as private individuals, the collected e-waste will be recycled by YI’s project partner Attero, a CII release said.

 E-waste weighing 800 kg was collected from Chandigarh during an e-waste collection drive by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)’s Young Indians Chandigarh Tricity Chapter along with the Environment Department of the Chandigarh Administration and Attero Recycling Pvt Ltd.

With the drive receiving a positive response from corporate houses as well as private individuals, the collected e-waste will be recycled by YI’s project partner Attero, a CII release said.

The e-waste collection drive was carried out on Thursday at CII office, Red Alkemi, UT Secretariat, Graycell Technologies Export, Infosys, Netsolutions, Altruist Technologies Pvt Ltd and Amity Global Business School, the release said.

Parul Pandey, head of YI Chandigarh Tricity Chapter, said, "this project was launched with the objective of promoting a greener and healthier environment by ensuring scientific collection and processing of the city’s e-waste in an environment friendly manner".

Anything that has a wire, a plug, battery or runs on electricity and which will never be in use again comprises electronic waste. This includes old computers and peripherals, gaming consoles, old refrigerators, television sets and DVD players.

Geeta Gulati, Environment head of YI, said, "We plan to target more than what we achieved during this drive, and also involve school and college students".
