5,000-bed hospital inaugurated in Ahmedabad

This hospital will treat patients irrespective of their paying capacity, after knowing of the dismal numbers of only 1 lakh out of 25 lakh heart patients receiving any treatment at all.

Thursday saw inauguration of a new medical facility - Narayan Hrudayalaya Health City in Rakhial area of the city. The hospital of 5,000 bed capacity will also house a medical college, nursing and paramedical institute on its 37-acre campus.

Narayan Hrudayalaya Health City, currently in its first phase, has 300-bed healthcare facility with advanced cardiology unit, cardiac surgical unit for adults and children, orthopaedic, neurosciences and several other facilities.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Dr Devi Shetty from Narayana Hrudayalaya stated, “

“Every year, about 25 lakh people in India are diagnosed with heart condition. If we combine all cardio hospitals of the country, they cater to only 90,000 to one lakh patients while others succumb to their condition as they cannot afford heart surgeries,” said Dr Devi Shetty from Narayana Hrudayalaya.

“This hospital will treat patients irrespective of their paying capacity,” he added. The 37 acre land for setting up the hospital has been provided by Gujarat government.
