500 militants still active in J&K: DGP

Around 300 militants were active in Kashmir Valley and the rest in Jammu division, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Kuldeep Khoda said.

Jammu and Kashmir DGP Kuldeep Khoda today said some 500 militants were still active in the state.
 
Around 300 militants were active in Kashmir Valley and the rest in Jammu division, he told mediapersons here on the sidelines of a sports function.
 
On infiltration from across the border, the director general of police said security forces were on high alert to foil such attempts.
 
On Pakistani media reports about terror outfits, under the banner of the United Jehad Council (UJC), trying to push militants into India, the DGP said "these reports are not new and are not at all surprising."
 
To a question, he said the Public Safety Act had been slapped on some 50-60 youths for indulging in stone-pelting after proper inquiries.
 
On frequent release and arrest of separatist leaders in the Valley, the DGP said this was done in accordance with law and order requirements.
