5 arrested for placing calf head in front of RSS office in Madurai

Five persons were arrested today in connection with the March 1 incident in front of the RSS office complex, where a severed head of a calf was found.

Police said the two wheeler used by them was seized, as also the knife used to skin the hide.

Police said the gang, on being questioned, said it was in retaliation for an alleged act of desecration of a place of worship in this city a few months back.

A mentally challenged person had then been arrested in connection with the case, but was subsequently set free.

The RSS had described it as an act of "anti-national forces" ahead of Sivarathri and urged police to deal with such forces with an iron hand.
