Four IAS officers and two IPS officers from Gujarat have been empanelled by the Central government for deputation. The IAS officers are of 1981 batch and are among 46 bureaucrats who can be posted as additional secretaries. The two IPS officers of 1988 batch are among 40 officers who can be posted at joint secretary-level positions.

There four IAS officers of Gujarat cadre are Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Rita Teaotia, D Jagatheesa Pandian and Hasmukh Adhia. The two IPS officers are Atul Karwal and Pravin Sinha. The empanellement was done on Tuesday.

Pujari is already on Central deputation and posted as executive director (North), Food Corporation of India, in Noida. Teaotia is commissioner of rural development and principal secretary to the state government in rural development department; Adhia is principal secretary in state education department; and Pandian is principal secretary in energy & petrochemicals department.

These officers can now go on deputation to the Government of India as additional secretaries or posts at that level. Though the three officers (Teaotia, Adhia and Pandian) expressed happiness over their empanelment, they did not show much interest in going on deputation. Adhia doesn't want to go on deputation as his son is pursuing his gradation in Gandhinagar; Teaotia also didn't show much interest in going to the Centre. Pandian said he was happy to have been empanelled.

"I am happy to be among the few officers to have been empanelled. But we will have to wait to see if the state government allows us to go to the Centre," he said.

In case of their deputation, there will not be any major change in the salaries of these bureaucrats as they are getting additional secretary-level salaries in their current positions as principal secretaries in the state for past five years. Besides, it is believed that promotion avenues in Government of India are slower than they are in state governments.
