4 chain snatchers held, 19 cases solved

Sabarmati police have nabbed four alleged chain snatchers and solved 19 cases of chain snatching and five of theft in city. The thieves were nabbed early last week and are currently in police custody, Sabarmati police said on Saturday.

The accused were identified as Ganpat Solanki alias Raju, Ravi Makwana, Kalpesh Solanki and Girish Solanki. They all are aged between 20 years and 22 years. Following a tip-off, Sabarmati police had arrested them from near Janpath Three Roads in Sabarmati on the night of last Thursday. 

During interrogation, Ganapat, Ravi, Kalpesh and Girish confessed to having snatched 19 chains in different incidents in various parts of the city.

They had looted 15 chains in Sardarnagar, two in Sabarmati and one each in Adalaj and Naroda. Police have recovered two gold chains worth Rs14,000 from them, Sabarmati police said. 

Cops say this is a major breakthrough in view of the increased number of cases of chain snatching in the city over the last two/three months.

Moreover, the four have also confessed to have broken into five shops in Sardarnagar area and made away with valuables worth thousands of rupees, police added.

Sabarmati police have registered cases of loot and theft against all four. They will be police custody till Monday.
